Lemonade Day for Houston is on May 6. This is a National event so if you are not in Houston, check their website to see if your city is participating. Homeschool Pool’s Tadpole and Guppy are participating this year. In fact, they will be independently creating their own businesses and competing against one another for our own in-house contest in addition to participating in the overall day. I am taking Tadpole and Homeschool Dad is taking Guppy.
The sponsors of Lemonade Day created a packet of materials that are perfect for home school economics. It teaches home school children all about how to open and run a business. For today we discussed what lemonade day was and started with Step 1 which focuses on setting goals.
We talked about items Tadpole would like to buy and why she hasn’t purchased them yet. She figured out pretty quickly the reason she cannot purchase some of the things she wants herself is because she does not have any money. She also realizes that a business is the perfect way to get money.
We had gone over last year the things you can do with money: Spend it, save it, share it. So, she was familiar with that. So, we did a paper on why she wanted to open a business which took care of Language Arts/Writing for today too. It also gave me a good idea for another St. Patrick’s Day activity.
Tadpole was able to have a great writing exercise while thinking about her goals. It was only a paragraph but we did rough drafts will culminate in a final draft along with picture I will post tomorrow.
Aside from Lemonade Day activities we had Co-op today and Tadpole worked on her Science Fair project. We had a busy day but a good one. We uploaded a lot and added the review for the Downtown Aquarium’s Homeschool Day.
Homeschool Pool hopes everyone had as good a day as we did.
